Great meet today! I loved seeing some of you battle through being tired from a long week of training, school and just life. Congrats to Gracyn (200 IM, 100 Breast), Alexa (50 Free, 100 Fly, 100 Back), and Clare (200 Free, 100 Back) for new state cuts today! For her great performances during the meet, Rebecca Jack earned today's gold cap! So so many good performances. Really a nice put together today from the team. Also, welcome to Coach Elysse! Coach Elysse will be helping us out as she is able for the remainder of the season. We are excited to have her with us.
For Friday, if we have 100% attendance from everyone on the team, I will lower next week's practice attendance to just five and cancel Friday afternoon next week. Be sure you get to practice.
Updated by Chauntelle on 9/29/2022 at 9:19pm.
The pool opens for warmup at 3pm/as soon as you arrive AFTER school dismisses. DO NOT LEAVE CLASS EARLY FOR THE MEET. I have gotten too many notices from the school admin regarding this issue: Athletes leaving class early for the meet will be held out of the Bellevue meet next week. Please get to the pool as quickly as possible after school dismisses. We will start diving at 3:30pm, so that means the pool will close from warmup at 3:25pm. Figure out TONIGHT how to be best organized to get to the pool and prepared to compete tomorrow - don't want until after school.
I am starting to see a huge increase in practices being missed, yards being missed, and just overall a little team fatigue happening. I want to encourage all of you to keep digging deep as we head into October. For most of the team, your days of competing will end at the end of October with the Kingco meet, but our team goals extend beyond that! What you are doing now is helping your body be ready for taper when its time. Do not look back at your season and wonder "what if...?" You still have plenty of time to work to reach what you want to accomplish! Keep locked in!! I believe in you!

Team Pictures are TOMORROW/Tuesday! Please come in your team suit. Check out my previous post for info on how to order!
We will have regularly scheduled after pictures are done.
See you at the pool!

Nice job again on Thursday, team! Congrats to Gracyn Kehoe (200 free, 500 free) and Clare Watson (500 Free) for picking up some additional state cuts during the meet. Gold cap for their performance during the meet went to Clare Watson! We have more and more athletes getting closer and closer to post-season cuts. Keep up the effort!
For next week: Team Pictures will be Tuesday afternoon. Please be in your team suits and ready for photos by 3:20pm. Link to order online: https://my.lifetouch.com/mylifetouch/#/ and here is the flier!

Out of class at 2:20pm tomorrow! NO EARLIER THAN 2:20pm! I got a list of athletes who abused the out of class time last week from the school and going forward, you will be held out of meets if you leave class earlier than permitted.
Stay healthy, team!

What a team effort last night for the meet against Newport! So many great performances! Two meets in and we now have all three relays qualified for state. We also got new state qualifying times from Alexa McDevitt (200 Free, 100 Free), Gracyn Kehoe (50 Free, 100 Fly), Isabel Peng (100 Fly) and Clare Watson (100 Back). Gold cap for their great performances during the meet goes to CJ Woare! Congrats to those who also got their first Kingco cuts of the season during the meet as well.
My favorite part of the meet: the ENERGY you all brought on the deck. I love this team!
Let's finish the week with a solid Friday practice. See you all on the deck!
Updated by Chauntelle on 9/15/2022 at 6:48pm.
On Tuesday, we will not have a swim practice. Instead, we will head to the MIHS Girls Varsity Volleyball game at 7pm in the MI gym. Our full team dinner will start at 5:45pm at the Ring's home (address will be sent later today in a separate email). I will be taking practice attendance at the volleyball game.
On Thursday for the meet, the pool will be open for warmup from 2pm-2:30pm for MI. Please get out of class no earlier than 2pm and hustle your way to the pool. For those who do not have afternoon classes, you can come right at 2pm. The shallow end of the pool will be open for warmup throughout the meet. The meet will begin promptly with diving at 3pm.
For those who have not turned in their goal sheets yet, please do so this week prior to the meet.
I am so excited for another great week with MI! Let's go, Islanders!

Lots of amazing performances today during the meet! Congrats to Gracyn (100 Free), Alexa (200 IM, 500 Free) and Clare (100 Fly) on new state cuts today! Our 400 Free Relay also qualified for the state meet! Alex Winn earned the first gold cap of the season. Overall, what an incredible effort. This is a great start to the season. Only up from here!
Friday practices: Just a reminder - morning practices are for those who have other plans in the afternoon that cannot be moved (appts, band, school related requirements, club practice/other activities). We are getting close to have too many athletes at the morning workouts and space is getting tight. Last Friday, we had a very large number of athletes at practice - I am hoping that will not be the case tomorrow unless it is absolutely necessary for you to attend. Remember - morning practices have three lanes, afternoon practices have all six! We will end Friday afternoon practice tomorrow at 5pm. Thanks for making every effort to come in the afternoon, if you are able.
Updated by Chauntelle on 9/8/2022 at 7:40pm.
Details for tomorrow's meet are on the Meet Schedule & Results page!! Updates will happen throughout the day and into late tonight/early tomorrow. Please note a few things: The meet will be swum invitational style (meaning, slowest to fastest seeding, not dual meet seeding); Four teams are participating; I will be making up times for some of you in some events if you don't have any times in the system with me yet; Diving will be happening after the 50 free and before the 100 fly during the meet.
Finally: WHAMMOS ARE NEEDED. Bus leaves MIHS at 1:30pm sharp for those who are participating in the meet.
Parents: I am looking for an official to help with the meet tomorrow; if you are available, please let me know. We are desperate at this point. Also, spectator space is very limited. We have been asked to discourage large spectator attendance and forewarn that there may not be space for spectators in the facility.

Team, you are incredible. I can't believe how many best times and the level of racing/effort that I saw! Not even two weeks in and you are all proving why this is going to be a special year for MI. Here are results from Time Trials today.
Let's keep building and finish the week strong on Friday before taking a long weekend break.

Way to go, team!
A few other updates as we start the week....
Goal Sheets: I handed out goal sheets at the retreat goal setting session on Friday. If you didn't attend the goal setting session OR you still have not turned in your goal sheet from the weekend, please be sure you get a sheet from me soon and have it turned back in by Time Trials on Thursday.
Practices this week: A lot of the team has hit 6 practices already - YAY!! If you have six, feel free to hit just four this week. The goal is for us to hit our 10 practice mark by the end of this week week. Reminder: You have to have 10 practices to even be eligible for the first meet! Doubles do not count as two - you will need to attend 10 separate DAYS of practice to be cleared for our first meet against Lindbergh on the 8th.
LOVING the positive energy I was seeing in Week 1! Let's keep that up heading into our second week and the start of school!

Updated by Chauntelle on 8/19/2022 at 1:40pm.
We are excited to head to the eastern side of the state for a quick one-night trip as a team! In the past, we have done trips to Kennewick later in the season – our goal is to still get the girls together and give everyone a chance to really prep for the upcoming season as one all prior to school starting! This trip is not required, but strongly encouraged for all members of the team.
Cost per athlete is expected as $160 and includes dinner on Friday, breakfast on Saturday and lunch on Saturday. Athletes will be encouraged to pack a lunch for the Friday bus trip, and we will stop as a team for dinner TBD on the way home on Saturday.
ALL athletes are invited regardless of whether they swim or dive or if this is their first year on the team or senior year on the team. Chaperones for the trip will be Chauntelle, Kyle and Shannon Cruzen, one of our team parents.
In order to attend this trip, the following needs to be completed by each athlete:
Updated by Chauntelle on 8/11/2022 at 2:45pm.
We have to have names turned into the school and into the hotel, so there won't be exceptions to this. Like mentioned above, I suggest that everyone work on getting their athletic packet done and finished. The field trip paperwork is easy (just a few signatures), but the athletic packet is what takes more work. BOTH have to be completed before the 16th.
Our captains for the fall season will be Anna Bertlin, Alexis Buchan, Flora Cruzen, Ellie Oordt and Ava Ring.
In addition, I am excited to announce that we will be going on a team retreat this fall in place of the Kennewick meet! Please mark your calendars for the weekend of August 26th (the end of HellO week). We are still working through details and pricing, but I want to be sure everyone has their calendars marked for something a little different this season to start the year before school starts. I think this is just what we need to kickoff what I know is going to be an incredibly successful season for the team.

Hello team! An email was sent to all juniors on the 2021-2022 team.
Please take a look at the attachment for information on the upcoming fall season and naming of captains. I appreciate everyone's patience as we start a new tradition with captains!
For the informational meeting listed in the expectations sheet, please contact Chauntelle via email for the link to the zoom meeting.
I expect the meeting to be LESS than 30 minutes. I really want to take this time to go over expectations that come with being a captain and answer all of your questions at that time.
I miss seeing you all every day! Only five more months until the season starts!! I hope you are all having a great week! See you soon!

GREAT showing by the team this weekend at the Sea-King District 2 meet! We finished with an incredible effort for the entire team and a 2nd place overall result to show! District Champs include Brooke Andrews (Diving) and Piper Enge (200 IM and 100 breast). Piper reset her school record in the 100 breast and swam the 2nd fastest 100 breast in state history. Gold cap for finals went to Isabel Peng and also all four divers - diving was our highest scoring team event of the meet.
Team energy is at a great level! I will post the state lineup later this evening to the website once it is released. Great job, team!

Updated by Chauntelle on 10/29/21 at 11:18pm.
A few changes have been made for tomorrow that I want you all know to know about:
1. We will have a warmup period Friday morning from 6am-7am with Kyle at Mary Wayte. If you like to get up and swim in the morning as a wake up swim - this is for you!
2. We will have a warmup period Friday afternoon from 3:15pm-4pm with Chauntelle at Mary Wayte. We will head directly over to the bus after this time.
Neither of these periods are required, but multiple girls have asked for opportunities to warmup in a more controlled environment before heading to the meet. Remember: YOU control your pathway. If you need the extra time, we have it for you. If you don't, that is fine too!
The bus will leave at 4:15pm from MIHS. This is a change from the 4pm time originally set up earlier this week.
Here is the live stream info:

If you plan to follow the team, it has been suggested that you do a monthly subscription, follow our school and then search for the Hazen site. If you have any questions....well - don't ask me! I will be coaching the team, silly. ;-)
Meet Mobile will have results posting throughout the meet.
And lastly, don't forget to bring dinner! We need to be as crisp at 9pm as we are at 5pm!
I am so proud of you. Everyone looked really good today at practice - cannot WAIT for tomorrow and for all of you to shine.

Congrats to Charlotte Friedman on qualifying for the state meet in diving at today's qualifier! Way to go, Charlotte!!!
Kingco entries are posted in my secret spot. Please go and check to be sure that you are entered in the appropriate individual events! Please let me know if you have any concerns with where you are by Sunday at noon! Note: Relays were picked based on coach's discretion and multiple factors played into that. We are only allowed to enter three relays per relay event and only one relay maximum swims in finals. Those who were not placed on relays shouldn't view this negatively - some of the decisions were to help me figure out other items for the next few weeks, give appropriate rest for some big swims that I wanted to get out of the Kingco meet, and simply based on what the finals relays could look like.

Great job today, team. What a beautiful send off for our seniors today!
Results are up. Rest easy...

Warmup will be from 3pm-3:30pm. No out of school early for the meet, but we will start promptly with diving at 3:30pm. We will recognize our seniors between the 50 free and the 100 fly! The recognition time will be about 10-12 minutes total.
This is will be our last meet of the season with spectators allowed. I would really like to encourage all of the families with athletes competing tomorrow to try and come and support for one last meet. This has been a great regular season effort by the full team - let's be sure to send them out with our love and support in-person if we can!

Warmup for the "Away" Bellevue meet is 2:30pm-3:00pm. Please be out of class no earlier than 2:20pm for a 2:30pm warmup. We will clear the pool at 3pm and start with diving. Reminder: This is technically an away meet for our team. We will be swimming in even lanes this meet and the volunteers will be from the opposing team.
I will post entries later this evening. Stay tuned.
Updated by Chauntelle on 10/13/2021 at 6:13pm.
Thursday's meet is technically an "away" meet against Bellevue. As of now, 3pm warmup, 3:30pm meet start.
Not our best team effort at today's meet, but I am really looking forward to putting today in the rearview mirror and attacking Thursday's meet aggressively! Who's with me!?
Normal Wednesday schedule. See you all on the deck!

Warmup is from 2:50pm-3:20pm and we will only have TWO lanes for swimming! Diving will have a normal warmup setting. During the swimming portion of the meet, it will be important that we not only stay focused on getting through the events, but that we swim FAST so we can get through the mean cleanly (ie, not cutting any heats). I think we can do it! We have been great at this so far this season. :-)
Eat a good breakfast and lunch. Can't wait for tomorrow.
Updated by Chauntelle on 10/11/2021 at 9:01pm.
For Tuesday's meet, we do not have use of the shallow end during the meet for warmup and cool down between events. For this reason, we are planning some additional breaks during the meet. Bainbridge is also bringing about 50 athletes to meet this week. Due to their ferry schedule, they are unable to get to the pool until 2:45pm. This means that BOTH teams will be warming up together from 2:50pm-3:20pm.
Please be out of class at 2:40pm and hustle to the pool for warmup starting at 2:50pm. Diving will be our first event and begin at 3:25pm. The lineup for tomorrow's meet will be posted late this evening. Please stay patient - I will get it up as soon as I can. :-)

2:55pm out of class. Warmup will end at 3:20pm. We have a FULL meet tomorrow with a lot of heats. We will only have short breaks after the 50 and after the 100 breast and those will be eliminated or shortened if we are running behind schedule. We will start with diving at 3:25pm.
See you tomorrow, Islanders!
Updated by Chauntelle on 10/6/2021 at 9:10pm.
This is a point during the season where we all can start to feel extra tired, sluggish, and even sore sometimes. THAT IS OKAY. Not feelin that way? THAT IS OKAY TOO. The key is how you deal with those feelings. If you are tired, remember WHY you are doing what you are doing and WHY you are trying and working so hard. What is your "why?" Keep it in perspective while you train and compete. Every day is a chance to chip away at your goal. When we start to get chances to rest/taper in the coming weeks, this will feel easier and all be worth it. In the meantime, it is really important that you stay true to yourself and your work habits. Don't let up now! Fight through all your races and dives! We got this, team! Let's keep on pressing through the week. Your coaches are all right here with you; you aren't in this alone.

A few important notes for tomorrow: the shallow end will not be open the entire meet, so we have added some breaks into the meet. The shallow end will not be open before 4:30pm and will only have a limited space. The breaks will be after the medley relay, 50 free, 200 free relay, and 100 breast.
Out of class time for tomorrow is 2:40pm - meet warmup for MI will be 2:50pm-3:10pm and diving competition scheduled to kick off the meet at 3:15pm.(For Thursday, we will not be out of class before 2:55pm and potentially not out of class early at all - stay tuned.)
Bring the energy, team!
Updated by Chauntelle on 10/4/2021 at 9:29pm.
Lots of outstanding performances today during the meet - so SO many! I am really proud of the season this team is starting to put together. Special recognition to Piper Enge for breaking the school record in the 100 breast again this season AND to Isabel Peng for qualifying for state in the 100 fly!!
Let's finish this week strong, team!
Updated by Chauntelle on 9/30/2021 at 9:18pm.
MI warm-up will be from 3:05pm-3:20pm. No one should leave class prior to 2:55pm. Remember: this is just to get you out of the hallways and through the building before the end of the day rush. Please get to the pool quickly to get warmed up.
Meet entries are tentative. There is a chance there will be a few changes tomorrow. Sammamish is a small team - I avoided back to back events knowing there would be few, if any, JV entries on there side. This means some of you are swimming only 2 or 3 events; it was done intentionally.

Today's meet brought the energy!! SUPER proud of how everyone really tried to kick it up a notch from diving through the 400 free relay today. Great job, team.
A few extra notes:
Congrats to Piper Enge on being named a WIAA Athlete of the Week! With Piper's swim in the 500 free today, she has also now qualified for state in every individual event this season - giving her Ironwoman status. Great job, Piper!
We now have all three relays qualified for the state meet after today's amazing swims. Way to go, EVERYONE! This is really a full team effort to get those times. I am so proud of every single person who has continued to work hard in the early season to get these times taken care of.
Team pictures are on Monday. We will do our pictures in team suits this year! Please be there and ready to go as soon as you can after school. We will have swim practice after pictures at Mary Wayte and dive practices after pictures at Mercerwood. (Check the sidebar for information on ordering.)
As we head into this next week, PLEASE get as much of your schoolwork done over the weekend that you can! Organize your week and plan ahead. Start that paper this weekend. Don't wait until Tuesday night to do that lab that's due Wednesday. Get that extra reading done on Sunday. I promise - not only will you feel like you have accomplishment something over the weekend, but you will feel better all of next week.
You all are rockstars. Couldn't be happier to get to work with you all.

ANOTHER MEET DAY IS ALMOST HERE! Anyone else ready for competition!? Feels like it has been a loooooong week.
Out of class tomorrow at 2:50pm - meet warmup for MI is from 3pm-3:20pm. Meet will start with diving around 3:20pm and swimming around 3:50pm tomorrow. Potential timeline change to a later start will depend on the heat sheet/timeline, but it won't be earlier than the time listed and warmup will stand no matter what. :-)
Heat sheet and link for the live stream will go up tomorrow afternoon.

For those participating in meets this week, please leave class at 2:55pm both Tuesday and Thursday. Our warmup time is going to be from 3pm-3:25pm. The five minutes should hopefully help you beat the end of the day "traffic" of everyone leaving classes at the same time and really limit the amount of instruction you are missing.
For those NOT participating, you should remain in class until the end of the day. Also, to limit the number of people on the pool deck - only those currently on the girls swive team are permitted on the deck during the meet. If your friends start to trickle down onto the deck, please help me by reminding them to stay in the stands. The deck space is reserved to just the athletes and coaches.

What a great week 3! Really excited for more meets this week.
Swimmers: Only four practices this week are needed (meets count!). You can choose which day you want to take an extra break, but if it is a day before a meet (ie, Monday or Wednesday) please be sure you email me and let me know so I still enter you in the meet. For those of you not feeling overwhelmed with outside items this week, its in your best interest to still come five times - if you can.
Entries for the meets this week will be posted late Monday evening and late Wednesday evening. ;-)
Let's have another great week, Islanders!

Fantastic performances across the board to get our racing season started, team!
Special shoutout to Piper Enge for breaking a 13 year-old school record in the 100 breaststroke! Her performance earned her today's gold cap!
MULTIPLE event winners. SO any post-season qualifying times. A LOT of room for us to get better. Looking forward to more meets and us continuing to learn how to race in short periods of time. I am excited for where we will soar this season.
90% attendance at practices tomorrow earns us all a deserved day off sometime next week (day of your choice). Make sure you are at practice either in the morning or in the afternoon - with two meets next week and multiple other commitments, I know it would be welcomed by all.

Warmup for tomorrow's meet is at 2:15pm (or as early as you can QUICKLY get to the pool and changed! We will need to be out of the water around 2:40pm so that Newport can get in and warmup and we can have a chance to get the meet started with diving around 3pm.
The meet lineup will be posted on the Meet Schedule & Results page late tonight (probably after 9pm). No need to email me worried that you don't see it unless its Thursday morning. :-) Give it a bit. We also have another meet added to our schedule on the meet schedule and results page.
The meet will be live streamed. Spectators are permitted, but viewing the live stream is strongly encouraged if possible. HEAT SHEET HERE.

Yay! Lake swim and week 1 are DONE! So proud of the number of girls that made six days of practices and even more proud of the number of girls who made full DOUBLES the whole week! Great start to the season.
Be sure that you complete the survey before the end of this weekend! I will need to work on assigning morning practices to be sure that we aren't too crowded during those times, so the quicker you complete this (especially if you need a morning practice slot) the better.

Whoohoo! What a great first day! So happy to see all your faces today!
For the rest of the week - please notice that we have CHANGED the practice schedule! We are unable to start at 8:30am on the MIBC property, so we are going to go right to in the water swimming and diving at 9am. If you have no yet done the waiver for MIBC, you will need to do so by tomorrow morning or you will be turned away from practice. As of Monday morning at 11am, we are only missing waivers from about 15 girls. Please be sure you check out the previous posting here on the website for the link.
See you Tuesday morning at 9am at the beach club!
Updated by Chauntelle on 8/23/2021 at 7:34pm.
Monday's first practice is at MIBC starting at 8:30am. We will start with a group introduction and welcome before getting in the water at 9am. Divers and swimmers will practice at the same location (MIBC) in the mornings. Prior to practice, please complete the following waiver required by MIBC: https://forms.gle/
Masks are required while indoors (for us this week, that means Mary Wayte and any use of the restroom at MIBC) regardless of vaccination status. Masks are not required while outdoors. i will go over other items next week, but as a general rule - its a good idea to have a mask and a plastic baggie with your name on it for all practices.
See you Monday morning!!

Please get your athletic packets turned in ASAP! Late registrations are accepted, but all of my season planning is based on the roster numbers. Too many late registrations mean I may not have enough pool space or coaches for the season. Help me help you. :-)
To ensure you don't miss the first day of the season, packets are due August 18th. Athletic packets cannot be turned in to coaches.
More information can be found on the MIHS athletic department page as well.
Also, if you are planning to participate this season and have not been added to team snap, please send an email to [email protected] and we will get you added!!!
